We had a scheduled induction at 39 weeks, due to concerns from my previous deliveries we thought this would help to provide the safest birthing environment. We arrived at the hospital at 6am as scheduled. My labor was induced with Pitocin at around 8am. A little less than two hours later, and once contractions became regular, the doctor came in and broke my water. Things started to progress slowly but surely after that.
It was hard to decide when it was time to call Dallas to join us at the hospital because we weren't doing any unnecessary cervical checks, so I had to rely on how my body was feeling and the progression of labor to tell us when it was time. I think we texted her to head our way at around 1pm as my contractions were lasting longer and occurring more frequently
Breathing, bouncing on a birthing ball, and using the counter pressure techniques that Dallas instructed my husband on how to do were the most helpful.
My husband and Dallas were wonderful. They provided great distracting conversation and counter pressure applied to my back to help me through contractions.
I received an epidural at about 6cm dilation, as planned. Then being in the bed, we utilized the peanut ball to keep labor progressing until it was time to push.
The entire birth process was very smooth! The only unusual thing was that this time we had my mother and mother in law video conferenced in to watch the birth live! Very cool experience!
I only pushed a total of 6 minutes this delivery! I could not believe how easily this baby was born, especially compared to my previous two births. It was a dream!
It was incredible to finally meet Atlas. Knowing he is our final piece of the puzzle for this family of five made it all the more special and made me want to soak in every moment.
Feeding him for the first time was such an incredible feeling. He latched on his own within the first two hours of birth and has been a fantastic eater ever since.
He was even more beautiful than I imagined, which I can honestly say has been true with each of my babies.
He had lighter hair than I expected! Also, his nose is different than his sisters' and so we're still trying to figure out who's he got! I just know I thought he was gorgeous!
I will cherish these memories as well as the images and video forever. Best purchase we've made and I wish I had these for my daughters' births! I can't believe I ever thought I didn't need a doula or birth photographer!
