One Week Old | Home Newborn
Last month, I met this beautiful couple at Jacksonville Beach for a sunset maternity session. (Click here to see!) And just a few short weeks later, I came to their home to do newborn photography for their new baby boy, sweet Carson!
At just one week old, Carson has already changed Kelsey and Cody’s whole world. Their overwhelming love for this tiny baby boy was so evident, and they shared their feelings with me about their new life as a family of three.
So, tell us about your first week of parenthood! How has it been?
“Surreal! We prepared 9 months for Carson to be here (which seemed like a lifetime), and then all if the sudden he’s here. We are tired, but so happy! Newborn life is tough, but so rewarding that we get to raise Carson.”
Carson is so precious! What are your favorite features of his?
“I love his little hands and feet, they are so tiny!”
What is one of the more difficult parts of this early newborn phase?
“Of course the lack of sleep, haha, but also just learning how to navigate parenthood for the first time. You have to figure out your baby, and the baby has to figure you out, too!”
And what has been your very favorite part?
“Definitely the newborn snuggles! Sometimes when we’re snuggling, I just look down and cry because I love him so much.”
What does your dog Hope think of the baby?
“Hope loves Carson so much! She is a very protective sister, and always makes sure he is okay. She loves to sit below his crib and watch out.”
Kelsey, how has it been seeing Cody become a dad?
“Seeing Cody so hands on has been the best. I am able to lean on him when things get tough, and it’s so important. I love watching him and Carson cuddle on the couch. I can’t wait to watch Carson grow and how their relationship develops!”
Cody, how awesome is Kelsey doing as a new mom?
“Kels is literately super mom. If Carson won’t calm down, all she has to do is pick him up and he stops crying. Talk about a mama’s boy! She doesn’t get frustrated with him (only me sometimes) and is always willing to do whatever it takes for our little family. Also…she still finds time in the day to smother Hope with love as well.”
Do you have any advice for expecting parents?
“Do not have any expectations! That is so incredibly hard, but this helps to ease any stress. When I was pregnant, I kept asking my friends questions and they’d usually respond with ‘you’ll just see when he gets here,” and that is so true! Part of parenthood is literally just figuring it out as you go and being flexible.”
Does this baby give you baby fever or what?? He is seriously too precious and the absolute light of his family’s life. Thank you, Cody and Kelsey, for sharing him with me!
