Bringing Home Baby | Welcome Home | Jacksonville Beach

Is there anything sweeter than bringing home baby? I was invited to photograph the moment that 2 year old Sophie met her newborn sister, Chloe, for this Jacksonville Beach family. Mom and I texted as they were being discharged from the hospital and I got to their house a few minutes before they pulled in the driveway.

Mom shared her thoughts about our session together, enjoy!

“We came home two nights after Chloe was born, which is basically the norm. We had really hoped to come home after only one night because we missed Sophie so much, but unfortunately Chloe was diagnosed with jaundice and needed to have special light therapy. In the moment, we were certainly upset and worried for Chloe, but giving her the extra time in the hospital was exactly what she needed, because after that extra night she was able to come home healthy and thriving.

When we walked to the front door, I was full of all kinds of emotions, from excited to nervous to just bursting with love.

I wasn’t 100% sure how Sophie would react to actually having her baby sister home, but I was so happily surprised to see her pure excitement and love for Chloe’s arrival.

Sophie was so sweet and wanted to hold her sister. She was extremely gentle and had just the cutest voice telling her baby sister hello for the first time.

We had a special gift from Chloe to Sophie, a sweet Etsy shop (Moon and Stone) made an extra special “Big Sis” bracelet. It was extra special because instead of the advertised rose quartz stones she was able to substitute green jade beads. Chloe’s middle name is Jayde so it was symbolic, plus green is Sophie’s favorite color.

Also, Sophie wanted her baby sister to have a small blanket just like hers to come home to, so she picked out the pink one from Little Giraffe and helped me wrap it for Chloe’s arrival.

For their outfits, I was able to find the girls matching outfits from Posh Peanut, super cozy and cute for the occasion. Sophie helped pick them and was excited to match her sister! I loved the black and pink in the photos and it was super easy to coordinate our clothes with the girls, too.

I would 100% recommend this photo session to new parents, it’s such a special moment to capture. Especially families with older siblings waiting at home to first meet their new sibling.

Dallas was so sweet and none of the photos felt forced or cheesy, it was all very natural. The moments still felt very private and intimate.

She also was happy to snap the few posed photos we wanted after our initial half hour or so of introducing Chloe to her new home.

We really wanted to capture and memorialize the first moments our daughters met. Bringing Chloe home to meet her big sister was such a sweet memory and now we can always look back on these tender moments. We look forward to working with her again to capture more family milestones in the future. Thank you, Dallas!!!”

I am loving these Welcome Home newborn sessions! With COVID restrictions, siblings and extended family members aren’t able to meet new babies in the hospital, so I’ve started offering this session as a way to celebrate that special moment when families are reunited at home.
